I got approached by a German game developer to create for them images of 5 buildings for their (under development) online strategy game. Since I had complete freedom, I decided to make little color concepts. For the first time in my life I'm painting in Photoshop!

I started by picking two main hues - the orange and the dark green and then just started playing and finding out what I like. I think I'll be doing this much more in the future - just draft a rough 3D model and then paint over it to see where should I go with the colours and the light. Here are 3 other final images, along with a bit of the progress:

 

This one is an EMP cannon. Since it's only shooting electro-magnetic waves, I thought it should look fragile and innocent:

This one is the Ion Defense Tower. It uses an old nuclear reactor and works best against low orbit space ships:

Inspiration for this were oldschool spaceship drawings by artists like John Berkey. I tried to capture the retro look and vibe of the sci-fi movies of last century:
